The Giant Swing was built for a Brahmin ceremony called “Triyampavai” or the Swing Ceremony. People believed this ceremony would bring good luck to the city. It was also a way to show respect to three

important Hindu gods Shiva, Ganesha, and Vishnu.

The Giant Swing stands on a tall, round concrete base. Its huge wooden pillars are decorated with carved wooden panels at the bottom. On each side of the swing, there are two red pillars shaped like traditional ceremonial wands. You can take photos of the swing from in front of Wat Suthat Thepwararam, or you can cross the street to get a closer look.

If you visit in the early afternoon, you’ll see the Giant Swing standing beautifully against the blue sky. If you come in the evening, you’ll be treated to a gorgeous view with warm sunset lighting.
